This is because it is one of the major contributors to multiple health related problems. And these are not just the physical problems, but also mental ailments such as depression. A large number of obese people, including children suffer from depression due to the shape and size of the body.

In fact, it has been seen that those with excessive body fat appear to be happy go lucky. To anyone these people are considered to be happy-go-lucky, as though their weight makes no difference to them. But, on deeper inspection it has been found that they actually suffer from an inferiority complex. And this could be a rather serious complex, as it takes them into depression.

Most would wonder that instead of slipping into depression, why can't they simply lose weight. But that is exactly where the problem lies. They have so much of excessive weight that it takes a very long time to lose it all. And this causes them to give up and binge on their favorite foods. They lack motivation to lose weight.

A dietician and healthcare professional dealing with an obese individual has to be extremely patient, as well as a motivator. One has to go beyond giving the required diet, medicine and exercise routine and counsel the individual from time-to-time so that he or she does not give up. This is more so with children, who already feel like they are not one amongst other children and then when put onto a diet they cannot eat their favorite foods.
